I’m a little torn on how I feel about this story, so I will start with what I liked.I liked that it is a quiet story, yes there is a wedding and the hustle and bustle that goes along with that, but Everett is a very calm and quiet guy and since he tells this story, that’s how the story came across. There are no crazy stalkers, drama, evil woman or misunderstandings. It’s two men who see each other and feel an attraction and want to see where it goes. Stolen moments and heated looks.“The way he stood so close, the slight insouciant slouch, and the cant of his head all glimmered with the blush of attraction.”I also learned a bit about Whipperpoorwill birds. But a lot of this short, which only covers a few hours, is spent on Everett counting balloons, bemoaning the color pink and taking his best-man duties seriously and also admiring the relationship of the happy couple marrying. It’s a look at the very start of a new love. So I was left wanting to see more of Everett and Jake, despite that I did enjoy this sweet romantic story, I just needed a little more to be really satisfied.

Reviewed at The Blogger Girls. As his best friend’s best man, Everett is determined to make Irving’s wedding go as smoothly as he possibly can. He’s ready for anything but when he meets the brother of the bride, Everett’s determination gets a little distracted. Jake is bad boy sexy and before Everett knows it, he’s acting way more confident than he usually is. But is their fleeting romance just that or could there be something more between them? This was a cute story. I really liked that Everett was such a nerd and that Jake was his complete opposite. I also loved that it seemed like (from the characters’ comments) a lot of the guests were nerds too. I found that adorable. But I also liked that there obviously was something between Jake and Everett. Although, since neither character has much depth to them so its hard to really connect with the story.I enjoyed this book and it had a lot of potential but it ultimately fell short of what, I think, the blurb promised. Yes, all those things happened but it was issues with quick and easy fixes. I didn’t feel like it held the ‘urgency’ that being part of a wedding normally has. While there’s some type of connection between Everett and Jake, I didn’t feel like there was enough of it. There’s a few shared moments but I expected a lot more of Jake and Everett time considering how short this story is.In the end, this is a sweet little story but it didn’t live up to its potential. I wanted to see more of Jake and Everett together, see more of the ‘go, go, go’ that is a wedding with no wedding planner. I wanted to feel as if I was part of all the crises but instead it just fell flat. If the story had been longer with a lot more depth, I think it would have been more enjoyable but as is, it’s a nice little snippet and if you’re looking for something a little sweet with not much meat to it, give this one a go.

While I know that this story is a nap-size only (around 10k) but still, the story left me with lack of satisfaction. The story has pretty much a slice-of-life theme and it happens on the day of a wedding between Everett’s best friend Irving and Molly. In which Everett finds attraction to Molly’s brother. That’s basically it.On one hand, I find the wedding preparation and the tidbit details about Whippoorwill (it’s a bird! I never knew) quite interesting. It’s nice to find information about what Whippoorwill means. On the other hand, because of very short time frame, I miss the progress of relationship between Everett and Jake. I think what they have is a beginning of something good. I just want a little bit more. So this only falls on my so-so rating.

Iactually give it 3 and a half..Everett is the best man at his best friend Irving’s wedding. He is making sure everything is perfect when he meets the bride, Molly’s brother, Jake. I will say I loved the detail in this story and would have loved to have seen this wedding it sounded so beautiful and romantic. I loved how the Whippoorwill is brought in on the cake and Molly’s dress and how much she loves the history of the bird and feels it brings luck and love. I also wanted to stand in the snow with Everett.I thought this was a well-executed short story, and very beautiful.
